De Frankfurter Musikmesse april 2011: de Introductie van het allernieuwste HAMMOND stage-keyboard.
Met veel elan en na veel onderzoek vertrouwde Hammond de muziekwereld een nieuw model toe, de Hammond SK. En wie kon Hammond voor deze introductie méér stampij op de beurs bezorgen, dan ons aller Jon Lord, (ons, helaas, ontvallen in 2012) die met het beroemde "Child in Time" met zijn groep "Deep Purple" het Hammondorgel in de héle popwereld op de kaart zette.

John is een Amerikaans staatsburger die zijn oorspronkelijk naam voor veel geld heeft doen omzetten in "Hammond". Soms gaat liefde voor een product wel heel ver....

Niet dat "de" sound ooit is weggeweest, maar als nooit tevoren heeft een hele nieuwe generatie muzikanten in de popwereld de Hammond Sound wederom herontdekt, herkend en erkend als een onmisbaar element voor een goed stuk muziek.
Veel andere fabrikanten zagen hun kans schoon om een stoet aan Hammond-klonen op de markt te brengen, zowel hardware- als software-matig.
Ik denk dan aan Clavia (Nord Electro), Emu B-3, Korg CX-3, Oberheim OB-5, Roland VK-7, Voce key-5, Diversi DV-duo, Key-B, Creamware B4000, Native instruments B-4, Linn Organ 3 plug in, ORGANized VST plug in, GSI VB-3, Pocket Organ C3B3 etc etc.
Het is dan ook logisch te veronderstellen, dat Hammond hier een bepaald marktaandeel heeft laten liggen, hetgeen waarschijnlijk de reden geweest voor het SK project.
Meer dan ooit werd naar de concurrentie gekeken en naar nieuwe ontwikkelingen op muziek, bediening, toepassing en media gebied. Als je goed kijkt en luistert, merk je dat vooral goed gekeken is naar Roland en Nord Electro: veel splits, veel extra sounds, veel midi, polyphony, master functies, meerdere types orgels (B-3, Klassiek, Farfisa, Vox, Mellow) etc.
Ook hebben de SK's de mogelijkheid om van de Hammond site gedownloade samples
(nieuwe geluiden) in te laden. Echter en het aantal en de bruikbaarheid zijn (nog) niet allemaal om naar huis te schrijven, of je moet zitten te springen om een blokfluit en een carillon. Maar goed, het begin was er en leek veelbelovend.

Eind 2011 volgde de eerste SK-update, hetgeen het volgende inhield:
Updated Areas:
- A new parameter, Velocity Offset has been added to the [CONTROL] menu
– press [UP] 6 times.
- Blinking cursor changes to static cursor by pressing [ENTER].
- The [AMOUNT] knob is assigned to RATE when the LFO source is chosen on the Ring Modulator.
- Improved polyphonic response.
- CC#81 Receiving (Lower) Drawbar Registration Is Fixed.
- The processing for Voice library, load and delete are improved.
- The selection of Voice Groups by the [VALUE] knob is now limited to each category.
- The sharp keys velocity has been slightly lowered.
- The Extra Voice Version is now available in the display.
- On the Factory Preset Patches, Vibrato & Chorus for Pedal has been turned off.
- All custom ToneWheel models now speak at the same volume level.
- In the "A.Piano" Voices, "3rd Harmonic GP" and "St. GP OldTime Pcd" have been added.
- In the "E.Piano" Voices, "EPiano Wur Mellow" has been added.
- In the "Keyboard" Voices, "Doob Real Love" has been added.
- In the "Wind" Voices, "Big Band Gliss Up Pcd", "Two Trumpets", "Unison Brass", "Syn Brs Afri" and "Syn Brs Rosa" have been added.

For many years, HAMMOND has been asked to make a truly portable double 61 note instrument that didn’t share the gross weight of a refrigerator. The SK2 can do it all. HAMMOND Drawbar voices up top, Grand Piano on the bottom-or vice versa. Manual Bass and Organ comp on the bottom, Horn section up top for accents. And yes, you can play the SK2 as a double manual HAMMOND Organ in the traditional fashion, the Pipe Organ voices too. Add one of our optional pedalboards and you’ll have the pro rig you’ve always dreamed of, but didn’t have the roadies or van to realize.
SK Series Overview
The SK Series Stage Keyboards are the most revolutionary HAMMONDS yet, from the company that invented and perfected the Drawbar/Tonewheel concept in 1934. These ultralight instruments provide the essential keyboard sounds required to play ANY show in ANY style, including a genuine and vintage-perfect HAMMOND Organ in compact packages with all the features expected in a vintage B-3, plus our most advanced Digital Leslie yet.
In addition to the authentic HAMMOND Tonewheel voices, the SK’s Extravoice Division provides Hi-Def Acoustic Grand, Rhodes, Wurlitzer and FM Pianos. Clavinet, Harpsichord, Accordion, Wind, Brass, Synth and Tuned Percussion voices complete the spec. You may play any of the Extravoices “solo” or add them to the Organ voices.
The Organ Generator may be switched to provide authentic models of Vox Continental, Vox Jaguar and Farfisa Combo Organs, all of which can be registered in the original fashion. The fourth Organ mode calls 32 ranks of Genuine Classical (“Church”) Pipe Organ voices derived from our Flagship Model 935 Church Organ.
Like all modern Hammonds, the SK’s have deep editing capabilities, allowing voicing (volume/timbre/leakage/motor noise) for each of the 96 Digital Tonewheels, faithfully delivering any Hammond Organ’s individual personality, with the ability to save these profiles for instant recall. 12 Factory Digital Tonewheel profiles ranging from “showroom clean” to “road worn” are available for instant personalization. Every facet of the Hammond’s sound like Chorus/Vibrato, Percussion, Key Click and Overdrive are widely adjustable with all settings saved with every preset. The Pipe Organ voices are also scaling/voicing capable.
Their Fatar semi-weighted keyboards are designed to feel like a vintage B-3, yet remain comfortable for any pianist, with variable touch “depth”. An expandable Voice Library is available free from the Hammond Website.
Any of the SK Series may be used as a MIDI Controller, with the ability to address 3 external zones. An Mp3/WAV music player is onboard to play backing tracks, break music, educational aids or any other tunes combined with the SK’s stereo output. You may also direct connect a physical Leslie Speaker via the 8 pin dedicated Leslie Jack.
